Today’s Scripture passage is really a short sermon from Jesus.
It’s recorded in all three Synoptic Gospels (cf. Matt. 16:24–28; Luke 9:23–27).
Jesus’ sermon focuses on saving faith and the cost of discipleship.
Jesus uses this concept of a suffering Messiah as a model for discipleship.
Today the Holy Spirit will teach us how a wrong view of Jesus leads to a wrong view of discipleship.
