Becoming a Disciple: The Death of Your Dreams

In today's Scripture passage, Jesus commissions the Twelve to preach the Word of God and make disciples.


We're going to learn the application of the Great Commission.


The disciples' commissioning—the assignment that Jesus gives them is to preach repentance (6:6b–13) and then report back to Jesus (6:30–32).


In the middle of this short term missions assignment, we learn the cost of following Jesus.


Next week, we're going to see what happens to the greatest prophet who ever lived—John the Baptizer (6:14–29).


These two events—this week and next week— seem to be unrelated to each other, but the gospel writer Mark deliberately links them together.
