Today we see Jesus’ last healing miracle in the gospel of Mark.

The setting is the city of Jericho.

Jericho is vital because the Jews would avoid traveling through the middle part of Israel called Samaria.

They would bypass Samaria, walkthrough Perea, cross the Jordan River at Jericho, and head toward Jerusalem.

Needless to say, there is a tremendous amount of foot traffic in Jericho, especially during the springtime when people are celebrating the Passover.

Knowing the number of travelers, many people with infirmities would sit alongside the road and beg for their daily bread.


Today we are going to meet one of those beggars. His name is Bartimaeus.
